On the morning of our last day in China we again boarded the bus for a ride to the Great Wall

We traveled northwest of Beijing to the Great Wall.  We went through a long tunnel (long green line) to the section of the wall we visited.  Obviously we only saw a tiny piece of the 3889 mike long wall that is supplemented by 1387  miles of natural barrier (the breaks in the red line).  If I were 50 years younger I would think about hiking the full length.  Now I think I made about 300 yards of it!

The roads sides were ablaze with flowering trees and scrubs

We caught a few glimpses of the wall before we dove into the tunnel

The wall is close on the right, but then it just keeps going and
going up over the mountain to the left.

The walkway on top of the wall is extremely steep in many places.  Only when it gets impossible does it break into steps.

Remember, the Chinese invented gunpowder so it is no surprise to see many old cannon and guns.
