Quito has had an aerial tramway, known as the "Telefériqo", from the city centre to the mountain known as Cruz Loma on the east side of the Pichincha volcano. The ride takes visitors from an altitude of 9,350  to an altitude of 13,500 ft. A rise of 4,150 feet up.  Yes, your ears do pop!

The tram cars were enclosed and held about 10 people depending on how good friends they were.

Looking down on Quito from the top.  Quito is a long narrow city.  25 miles long but only 3.1 miles wide at is widest point.  Obviously it is built in a valley between very high mountains.

We were above some of the clouds at the top.  I was able to shoot under the cloud cover for this photo.
