Our first full day in Beijing, April 19, 2013, was a busy one.  First we visited Tiananmen Square.  Then across the street to the 183 acre Forbidden City.  Next back on the bus and on to the Summer Palace and finally to a Formal Tea Ceremony.  We will start with Tiananmen Square.

Tiananmen Square is the third largest city square in the world.  It measures 960 yards by 550 yards and contains 109 acres of area. It was that site of the infamous  student protests of 1989. Click on the provided link to read more about these protests.

We saw a part of the old Beijing City Wall on the way to Tiananmen Square.

Our bus parked across the street so this was our first
 view of the square

There was a visible police presence around the square.  I
don't think this one was too happy about having his photo taken but he did not
say anything.

There were CCTV cameras everywhere.  The other light poles
in the background has similar cameras mounted on them.

This little police car has a Keystone Kops aria about it but I would not want to mess with them.
